Loch Ness & The Great Glen

Dolphins at Cromarty

Watch playful bottlenose dolphins leap and dive in the Cromarty Firth and enjoy this beautiful Highland village. A 2-hour boat trip with Eco Ventures (Apr–Oct) can take you out to sea so you may be able to get up close with the dolphins. The scenery includes an amazing ‘Oil Rig Graveyard’, contrasting with the rugged coastal landscape… it can feel like you are part of a sci-fi movie.

Bring a fishing rod to angle off the harbour with the locals, and catch your supper. Or book a table at Cromarty’s Sutor Creek restaurant for a wonderful meal. Drive time: 1 hour.

Falconry at Rothiemurchus

The Estate boasts many extraordinary outdoor activities; learn to shoot clays, go gorge walking, pet the highland coos, and feed the deer.

The Beach at Loch Morlich is right next door. It is an opportunity for a refreshing dip in the clear waters, surrounded by the stunning Cairngorm Mountains. This is the highest beach in the UK and is a perfect spot for a walk and a picnic. Drive time: 25 mins.
