Frontier Cabins | Values

“After a whole day in the woods, we are already immortal” - John Muir

Frontier aims to give you the most beautiful life experience, in this beautiful forest.

It is a visionary young business based in The Scottish Highlands. Frontier is about wellness and restoration; a rebalancing, against the high pressures of modern life. The new frontier isn’t external, it is internal.

The ‘new’ cabins are made from ‘old’ materials. 75% of the materials are re-purposed. It is part of Frontier’s commitment to the circular economy and innovation through design engineering. We grow our own fuel, we harvest local stream water, and upcycle what we can. It’s an effort to minimise the environmental footprint, and view resources from a new perspective.

At The Dalbuaick Forest, we have planted wildflowers for pollinators like bees, new broadleaf trees like wild cherry and mountain ash to diversify the woodland, recycled branches into wildlife shelters, added bee hives producing raw honey, and bat boxes for our flying mammal friends, and insect ‘hotels’ of various scales.

Being in the forest is a reminder that our ancestors lived, foraged, and hunted in forests like this; not by being separate from ‘nature’ as humans, but by being an integral part of nature … by being part of the forest ecosystem.

With Frontier, you can take your shoes off, get a taste for the wild, and connect with the natural environment.

It is a wonder to be immersed in 1 million trees, to soak up the forest sounds, and to recognise the precious interdependencies we have with all the forest creatures, large and small.

A unique pop-up cabin experience in The Highlands

Enjoy long walks around the National Park mountains, wild swim in her beautiful lochs, and soak up the evergreen forest on a meandering walk through the trees. Go whale watching. Eat fresh catch from the local boats. Pick wild mushrooms. Sit by a glorious wood stove and feast on local cheeses. Sample the local Speyside whisky. Bathe in the great outdoors. See the northern lights. We promise you a life-affirming Highlands experience, no matter the weather.

Responsible Highlands Tourism

Frontier is among the growing niche of ecological companies seeking to contribute to the Highlands economy, and in tandem, have a positive relationship with the environment. We believe in responsible tourism, and responsible economics. Our natural environment is our greatest asset. Frontier seeks innovative ways of improving biodiversity and limiting carbon emissions as 2 examples. That’s why we work extra hard on things like tree planting, wind turbines as power source, and using recycled materials for our 2 luxury cabins. We are working with expert foresters and natural scientists to give back to nature.
